Description: This is a Bond Forfeiture project that was conducted by PA DEP BAMR and is now the responsibility of the PA DEP Knox DMO. The primary goal of this project was to lower the mine pool to a level that would not cause damage at the surface. This involved a directional drilling project into the underground mine. The mine water was then directed into a settling pond, which was constructed to reduce iron concentrations in the resulting discharge. However, there was not enough area to adequately size the pond, so only partial treatment is being provided.
